BIO
Okiemute Shishe is a Nigerian-German-American contemporary visual artist, born in Warri, Nigeria in 1976 to a Nigerian Urhobo father and a German artist mother, The Artist Frigga, both of whom she counts as her greatest inspiration. Raised across three continents and several cultures, Okiemute spent the better part of her life observing and interacting with artistic environments. Her journey as an artist began in late 2020 following the passing of her father, Chief Samuel Bokina Shishe. Using canvas, paint and glitter, she expresses the richness of her multicultural background through vibrant colors in a glittery style, focusing on themes of self-love, family, and community.
In September 2022, Okiemute held her first Solo exhibition as Jackie O. Love at the Brick at Bluestar Gallery in San Antonio, TX, USA. She returned home to Nigeria in November 2022, after three decades of exploring the world, where she now resides and works as an artist. Reconnecting with her roots, she reclaimed her identity as one of Nigeria’s daughters and established herself as Okiemute Shishe the artist. Her homecoming symbolized the fulfillment of the meaning of her birth name, Okiemute - “My Time Has Come.”
