About the Artist
Okiemute Shishe is a Nigerian-German-American contemporary visual artist whose work radiates color, culture, and connection. Born in Warri, Nigeria, in 1976 to a Nigerian Urhobo father and German artist mother, The Artist Frigga, she was immersed in a world where tradition and creativity intertwined. From an early age, Okiemute absorbed the richness of three continents, growing up between Africa, Europe, and America...an upbringing that deeply shaped her perspective and artistic voice.

Her artistic journey blossomed in late 2020, sparked by the profound loss of her father, Chief Samuel Bokina Shishe. On canvas, she began weaving together the threads of memory, heritage, and healing, channeling her story through bold brushstrokes, glitter, and radiant colors. Her distinctive glittery style is a celebration of joy, resilience, and belonging, with recurring themes of self-love, family, and community at its heart.

In September 2022, she debuted under the name Jackie O. Love with her first solo exhibition at the Brick at Bluestar Gallery in San Antonio, Texas, USA. Later that year, she returned to Nigeria after three decades abroad...a homecoming that was both artistic and spiritual. By reclaiming her name and identity as Okiemute Shishe, she honored the prophecy within her birth name, Okiemute - “My Time Has Come.”

Now based in Lagos, Okiemute continues to create art that bridges cultures and generations. Her work invites audiences to celebrate beauty, embrace identity, and find connection in the kaleidoscope of colors and stories that define her practice. Each piece is more than paint and glitter...they are a living testament to divine timing and to destiny being fulfilled.
